Gary Carter YogaWEEKEND with GARY GARTER
Theme: “Yoga as a User’s Manual for your Body”.
Date: 9th & 10th January 2010

Who can attend? This weekend workshop is suitable for everyone, beginners as well as for those who have been practicing for many years and would like to understand their body better in order to get more out of their yoga.

About the guest teacher:  Gary Carter is an inspiring teacher with an awesome knowledge of how the body moves, which he presents with great skill and entertaining humour! He established Natural Bodies in Brighton, England -- the first centre dedicated to the work and approach of Yoga Master Vanda Scaravelli.

About the workshop:  Gary’s unique approach is not so much about executing postures, but to cultivate the conditions that allow the body’s natural intelligence to awaken. This also brings individuality to one's yoga practice, along with a deeper understanding of one’s body and how it moves in yoga class and in everyday life.  His easy manner allows everyone to work at their own pace. Learning to discover and feel the movement of the spine and the breath becomes a deep-rooted part of the practice. Many students say it is like 'coming home’.

Gary Carter shows how a better understanding of anatomy can help us to make intelligent choices about the way we use our bodies.  His workshops involve the use of props, illustrations and hands-on work to help demonstrate the principles that underlie how our bodies function. This weekend workshop explores the anatomy of movement and posture; through movement analysis, 3-D work and experiential anatomy.  It will encourage participants to 'see' their own bodies more clearly, thus helping to relieve re-occurring aches and pains due to sports or other injuries or trauma. The classes also assist in resolving issues such as tightness in the shoulders and neck, which is so common in our modern lives – in which the intellect dominates and the body can be easily neglected. This weekend workshop is most helpful for rehabilitative issues. The course aims to help you take a flexible, intelligent approach to exercise with your own body.

sam rao yogaAbout the workshop: Sam explains with clarity how, for example, the inner workings of the lower body, i.e. appendix, prostate, bladder and colon, are readily assisted through certain postures that promote wellbeing in these vital organs and prevent the onset of degenerative disease.

All yoga practice is about working the body and quietening the mind.  The asanas (postures) stretch the muscles and exercise the joints; then pranayama (breathing) nourishes the whole body while accentuating concentration and focus in the mind, and every yoga session concludes with a period of relaxation.  The end result is to progressively feel both energised and calm, and ultimately experience a body totally free of discomfort.  Under Sam’s patient guidance, it becomes apparent that each man is responsible for his own wellbeing and can actively participate in the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention through yoga.
